This is Excenia writing. Yesterday was amazing. If you knew me, you would know it is very hard for me to be speechless...and I was. Totally and completely. I got this dude, Jovani, to open up and talk to me, I saw a volcano for the first time in person, laughed at clowns and best part is I understood! I´ve noticed my Spanish has gotten so much better and I´m starting to think in Spanish. It´s hard to stop smiling. I have fallen in love with this place and all that it has. The communities are genuine and the atmosphere is filled with love and a sense of common poverty yet happiness for their livlihood. Last night, the stars shone and I saw them. When I say saw, I mean no lights to obscure my view of the stars. It was beautiful!
Today was the first day of classes and the kids were so excited. They asked questions and I could tell that they wanted to learn all that they could. In some way, shape or form they reminded me of my brothers and sisters and I am growing to love them as such even though it is my first time in class.
Right now I´m sweating, tired and I really want to sleep. And it is only 1 pm. But I am happy. Mom, Dad, I love you and I miss you. Don´t worry, I´m okay. You are always in my thoughts and just know you are the last thing I think of before I go to bed. You´ll love it here, I know.
This afternoon, we start painting!
